Leeds Festival 2022 //Sunday 28th
Moshmag Preview by Stanley D Kippax
Yorkshire is big! Yes geographically its vast, but it’s big in every other sense too. Its the Texas of the UK. Ask any Yorkshireman and they’ll tell you. They make the best cup of tea, the best cheese, the best puddings. The Dales are Gods own Country. They’ve got the best foot…ok maybe not football team. But even the colossus of Yorkshire couldn’t contain the Arctic Monkeys for long who return to these shores for the first time since 2018 to headline the Main Stage East at (21.20).
Another Sheffield band, Bring Me The Horizons take to the Main Stage West (17.50) to battle for the much coveted “best Sheffield Band at the Festival” title. On the face of it this might seem like a miss-match, Arctic Monkeys have the weight advantage and the reach. But BMTH’s Metal Core is definitely the more frenzied act and to paraphrase Hal Wilkinson in Malcolm in the Middle, crazy often beats big.
Elsewhere we’ve got more clashes than a World Title Fight (alright just the two really, but that’s easily two too many). First up on the undercard we’ve got The Sherlocks (Main Stage West) v Police Car Collective (Dance Stage) at noon. Tez Ilyas (The Alternative Stage 17.00) takes on all 5 of Fontaines D.C (17.05 Main Stage East) which admittedly seems like a bit of a one sided affair and not just numerically. Music beats comedy at a music festival every time I’m afraid. This is MoshMag not Mosh errrrr Gag. Ding Ding, seconds out.
Thankfully the rest of the day looks smooth sailing so my boxing analogy can retire to a lifetime of meet and greets, Las Vegas casinos and kitchen utensil manufacturing. The Lathums (Main Stage East) bring the cheerful jangly melodies at 14.05 whilst Wolf Alice see a change in direction on the same stage at 18.55.
Last day for those of us lucky enough to be here, enjoy it, no one looks back and reminisces about that extra half hour in bed or the quiet one round the campsite. Get stuck in, you’ll not regret it!
